State tax refunds may be a little less than expected this year. The City of Chicago and several other city governments in Illinois have asked the State to withhold tax refunds from millions who owe the cities money from old traffic tickets and unpaid water bills.
So far the Illinois Comptroller’s Office has notified over 40,000 individuals that their tax refunds may be reduced or altogether wiped out due to these outstanding issues. So far, several hundred challenges have been filed.
