The City of Chicago may add up to 1,800 speed cameras in Chicago. The cameras would be installed near schools and parks.
A driver can up to 5 miles over the speed limit without violating the law. Driver’s caught driving 6 to 10 miles over the speed limit face a $50.00 fine and those going over 11 miles per hours will have to pay $100.00.
The City has limited the hours of the cameras. Cameras near schools will be operational from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Friday hours will be extended to 9:00 p.m. Cameras near parks will be operational beginning one hour before the park opens until one hour after the park closes.
The City can begin using these cameras on July 1, 2012.
