Social Media is allowing food trucks to connect with patrons by announcing their location on a certain day and time. However, more than just patrons are learning about the food truck locations.
Chicago Police are using sites like Twitter to track and then ticket food truck owners for various violations ranging from preparing food on board or being parked within 200 feet of a restaurant.
According to some food truck owners, police officers are stopping the trucks even before they get to their destination and ticket them before they have even violated an ordinance.
Chicago has some of the stiffest ordinances governing the use of food trucks. Many food truck operators blame the Illinois Restaurant Association, which has lobbied for more restrictions on food truck operators.
With the spring and summer seasons fast approaching, this is certainly an issue that won’t be stopping anytime soon.
